Re-covery

"Recovery" When you break that word down you end up with re-cover. Meaning to repeatedly cover something up. When we continuously cover something up, we never actually deal with the issue. Facing our fears and demons can be very scary and uncomfortable. Our natural response as human beings is to avoid and run away from these uncomfortable fears. As soon as we feel that anxiety we immediately turn our attention away and place it on something else. This something else could be drugs or alcohol. It could also be "positive" things like exercise, work, reading or family. In other words, when something uncomfortable surfaces in our awareness we quickly cover it back up so that we don't have to experience it. Because we never deal with our feelings, emotions and our past, we are never able to move past them. They will always be dormant waiting to come to the surface. I think "Discovery" is a much better word for what we do here. We learn to face our fears and in doing so we discover more and more about who we really are. It is through this process that we become more aware and in-tune with our thoughts and emotions. The more aware we become, the more power we have and the less power they have over us.
